Frequently Asked Questions

What is church?

A Church vs The Church
By definition, a church is defined as a building where believers of Jesus gather together to worship.
However, the Bible tells us that the church is more than just a building. It is the people who make up the body of Christ - the people who declare their faith in Jesus and now live to serve the world and spread the Gospel.

Do I have to attend church to be a Christian?

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
Hebrews 10:25
No, you don't have to attend church to be a follower of Jesus. However, it is God's desire for His people to be spiritually mature and strong in faith. The book of Hebrews links assembling together regularly - as a body of believers - to maturity, encouragement, and spiritual growth.

What is denomination?

If Christianity were a tree, denomination would be a branch. All denominations in the Christian faith have similarities: believing Jesus is the son of God, that He died for our sins, and that God is the one true God are a few. However, beliefs regarding the details vary from one denomination to the next.

What is Oak Park Church's denomination?

Oak Park Church is affiliated with Church of God based out of Cleveland, Tennessee. You can learn more about our denomination and what we believe by visiting our "What We Believe" page.

How do I know what church is right for me?

The best way to know whether or not a church - or even a denomination - is the right one for you and your family is to attend. Attend, then put it to the test. Begin to prayerfully read the Bible on your own. Study it out and determine whether or not you believe the church you are attending lines up with the word of God.

Does church matter?

The church should matter to you because it matters to God. In fact, the church matters so much to God that He calls the church His bride. He loves the church, protects it, and stands up for it.

1 Corinthians 3:16 says, "Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?"

The church should matter to you, because once you have decided to be a follower of Jesus you become the church.

What if I do not fit in?

For one reason or another, sometimes individuals feel like they don’t fit in at church. It is important to remember that God does not judge according to man’s standards. In God’s eyes, there are only two kinds of people — those who need His grace and forgiveness, and those who have already received it.

Building relationships and making connections can often take some time. We highly recommend you not giving up when facing this type of discouragement. You longing to have companionship in your walk with Christ is a positive thing.

Oak Park Church has also taken measures to help those who are new to the faith to get connected. You can contact our Connection Pastor today with any questions or concerns.

 What should I wear?

There's no specific dress code in place here. Whether you choose to wear jeans and a t-shirt or dress up in your Sunday best, you are always welcome. What matters to us is you, not your attire.

Here are some outfits you may see on a Sunday morning.

 What time should I arrive?

We recommend arriving about 15-20 minutes before the service starts. This gives you plenty of time to find parking, check in your children - if you have children attending OPC Kids - and settle into your seat without feeling rushed. It also gives you a great opportunity to grab a cup of coffee, - from the OPC Cafe - meet a few people, and get comfortable before the service begins.

We have two service options each Sunday:
8:30 or 10:45 AM

What do you offer for my children?

We have dedicated programs for kids and teenagers.

Our children’s ministry -  known as OPC Kids - provides a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children to learn about God. They hold services each Sunday during regular church service and offer MDWK - Wednesday night at 6:30 PM - classes. The OPC Kids team welcome children 0 - 6th grade.

Meanwhile, the OPC Student ministry tackles relevant topics and helps teens navigate their faith in today’s world. They offer Sunday School classes on Sunday morning at 10:00 AM, and hold youth service on Wednesday night at 6:30 PM. The OPC Students welcome middle and high school teenagers.
